Description:

Folios 64-65. Lieutenant Hawley to Newcastle. Troops preparing to march, to ease fears of people in Edinburgh. No provisions or forage for army in Scotland; have sufficient bread, but rations will be brought in by sea. Berwick [Northumberland] man contracted to provide weekly supply of cattle. In need of money; Royal Highness [Duke of Cumberland] will provide his military chest. Details the 'large Staff' at Newcastle [Northumberland]. Estimates ten men in every hundred will visit hospital in Scotland, but biggest concern is starvation. Asks for copy or print of a map of Scotland. Dreads Hessians coming too soon, as they will be forced to stay on board transports. Dated at Newcastle. Filed with:
