This series contains policy and strategy files of the Group Chief Accountant's Office.

Many files relate to privatisation of parts of British Rail in the 1980's, eg Sealink UK Ltd (1984), Doncaster Wagon Works Ltd and British Transport Advertising (1987), British Rail Engineering Ltd and Travellers Fare Ltd (1988), Gold Star Holidays and the Vale of Rheidol Railway (1989).

Other files cover insurance, pensions, joint ventures such as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, etc.

The records from the 1990's largely concern the introduction of new financial systems to support the establishment of shadow franchises within British Rail (Project Sapphire).
