Administrative / biographical background:

The Accommodation Department handled all accommodation matters for Diplomatic Service posts abroad, and planning for the new Foreign and Commonwealth Office London building project. Home service accommodation matters were dealt with by the Office Services and Supply Department.

On the formation of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in October 1968, the Diplomatic Service Administration Office was abolished, and the functions of the Accommodation and the Office Services and Supply Departments passed directly to the new office. The work of these departments passed to an Accommodation and Services Department in 1971, and then to the Office Services and Transport Unit in 1982.
