Administrative / biographical background:

IC (2) was one of the new divisions established as part of the creation of the DTI in October 1970. It acquired the functions of parts of Central Industrial Policy Division (ex MinTech). Following organisational changes in January 1973 which created new divisions responsible for work previously done by IC 1, and the renaming of IC 3 Division in March 1973, IC 2's name was shortened by dropping the '2' suffix. IC 2 was one of the DTI's key divisions, serving as the focal point for the industrial policies of the department, and for advising on the policies of other departments which affected industry generally.
