Administrative / biographical background: |
From 1942 the ministerial Machinery of Government Committee assisted by official committees dealt with machinery of government questions; at the end of 1945 the Ministerial Committee decided that the Treasury should accept the responsibility and a small MG section was set up; in 1947 it was incorporated in the Organisation and Methods Section. Under the re-organisation begun in 1956 and built on in 1962 the Organisation and Methods and Management Services divisions were brigaded within the Management Group: this series contains files on machinery of government issues from this latter period. In 1968 the machinery of government function passed to the new Civil Service Department. |
