Description:

Folios 336-338. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from Mr Harry Bernard Parnell, Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Mansfield Poor Law Union Workhouse on 30 December 1867: includes details of medical provision, sick wards, building alterations and equipment needed. The water supply and privies are defective. Building work is still ongoing, equipment such as coconut fibre mats are needed in the elderly wards and nursery, as are spectacles, combs, cots and rocking chairs for nursing mothers and 2 work tables for the lying in ward.

The master of the workhouse who died suddenly on the 25 December 1867 was buried on the day of inspection and the funeral was attended by the clerk so Parnell was unable to access the visitors' book.
