Folios 332-333. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from Andrew Doyle, Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Newcastle under Lyme Poor Law Union Workhouse on 17 February 1865; includes details of medical provision, management of the school, the vagrant wards etc., and indicates that arrangements for setting vagrants to work are not effective.

Annotated: various comments as to whether vagrants can be compelled to work in exchange for lodging only. Precedents from other unions are given: Fareham Poor Law Union [Hampshire], 37034/1861; Aylesbury Poor Law Union [Buckinghamshire], 26991/1864; and Hartley Wintney Poor Law Union [Hampshire], 1902/1865. 'Now Reserve until Mr Doyle next reports upon this Workhouse'.
