Description:

Folios 464-465. Workhouse Inspection Report from Robert Weale, Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Mansfield Poor Law Union Workhouse on 18 August; includes details of medical provision, management of the school, the vagrant wards. It reports that the boy's school has not improved and the school master has promised to resign at the next meeting of the board. A copy of the Inspection Report for the School dated 9 August 1848 by H G Bowyer is included. He recommends that the boys and girls schools are combined and are run under the mistress who appears to be quite able to manage. The workhouse is now regularly being inspected by the visiting committee.
