Description:

Folios 356A-358. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from H B Farnall, Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Basford Poor Law Union Workhouse on 11 November 1867; includes details of medical provision, management of the school, the vagrant wards etc.

The report provides observations on whether the workhouse meets the needs of the union, the workhouse provisions for the sick and infected and the workhouse school. The report is critical in regards to much overcrowding, lack of sanitation and one elderly woman by the name of Ellen Jones had attempted to strangle another inmate.

Annexed is a copy of the last report of Robert Nairne, Commissioner in Lunacy, and Edward Wodehouse, HM Inspector of Union Schools.
