Administrative / biographical background:

The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) is a specialist armed police service dedicated to protecting the civil nuclear industry. The CNC protects 14 civil nuclear sites across England, Scotland and Wales, safeguards nuclear material in transit and plays a key role in national security. The CNC provides law enforcement and security at or within 5 km of any relevant nuclear site.

The CNC and the Civil Nuclear Police Authority (CNPA) were established on 1 April 2005, the CNC replacing the former Atomic Energy Authority Constabulary which had been established in 1955. The CNPA is CNC's governing authority and reports to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).
