Description:

Folios 572-575. Workhouse Inspection Report form from Mr John T Graves, Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Bromsgrove Poor Law Union Workhouse on 9 August 1859; includes details of medical provision, management of the school, the vagrant wards etc. He notes there are no vagrant wards. Vagrants are relieved in places approved for that purpose. He made enquiries into complaints made by a discarded porter against the master.

Also attached is a copy of the report by J C Symons, Inspector of Schools, dated 26 May 1859 of his inspection of the school of the Bromsgrove Union. He finds the children young but more intelligent than usual.

Also attached is a copy of the report by James Wilkes, Commissioner in Lunacy dated December 1858. He reports there being 5 males and 10 females of unsound mind in the workhouse who are quiet and well cared for. Jane Amy, admitted the previous night, may need to be removed to an asylum. He is concerned that violent cases are accepted into the workhouse before removal to the asylum at the cost of much disturbance. Items of restraint are in the wards or the care of the master.
