This series contains site plans and architectural drawings relating to government offices, courts of law and other public buildings in England. A substantial number are for buildings in London, including government offices in Whitehall and the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand. There are also many drawings for buildings outside London, mainly of defined types for which the Office of Works and its successors were responsible at various times, including county courts, customs houses, post offices and telephone exchanges. A small group of maps, plans and drawings, mainly relating to areas in and around London and Westminster, amassed by George Legge, first Baron Dartmouth (1647-1691) and purchased by the Ministry of Works in 1949, is included with this series. |
