Details of WORK 9
Reference: WORK 9
Title: Epping Forest Commissioners: correspondence, papers and maps
Description:

This series contains the records of the Commissioners appointed under the Epping Forest Act 1871 to inquire into rights and claims over the forest and to prepare a scheme for the preservation and management of the waste lands as an open space for the recreation and enjoyment of the public, and some records of the Arbitrator appointed to settle disputed matters arising from the provisions of the 1878 Epping Forest Act. The records include correspondence; minute books of the commissioners, minutes of evidence and printed reports of proceedings; claims and objections to claims; evidence, mostly in the form of office copies and translations of manorial and court documents or of extracts from them; orders of the commissioners and of the arbitrator; and maps and plans. The series also contains a few records or copies of records of the commissioners appointed under the New Forest and Waltham Forest Act 1849, presumably consulted by the 1871 commissioners.
