Description:

Folios 246-248. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from John Thomas Graves, Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Kidderminster Poor Law Union Workhouse on 19 May 1863; includes details of medical provision, management of the school, the vagrant wards etc. Reports states that both schools are fairly managed and references enclosed comments by [J B Browne], Inspector of Schools in the union's visitors book.

The enclosed copy entry states that in examinations the boys passed at good and the girls at fair and the schoolmaster deserves much credit for what has been achieved. It suggests the guardians should provide a sitting room for each teacher and notes that the parliamentary grant is only paid on this condition. The entry also recommends that additional reading and geography books are provided.
