Description:

Captured ship: Nuestra Senora del Carmen of Callao, Peru (master Philip Christoval or Felipe Cristobal).

History: a Spanish ship (8 tons, 5 Indian men, 4 passengers), bound from Callao to Paita, Peru, laden with gold and silver in the passengers' trunks; taken in November 1741 off the Island of Lobos of Tierra by HMS Gloucester (Mathew Mitchell commanding) of Anson's squadron, and condemned at sea under a special commission issued to Commodore Anson's expedition.
