Captured ship: Jeune Catherine of Workum (master Hendrick Stoffels or Stoffens). History: a Dutch merchant ship (150 tons, 6 men), bound from Bordeaux to St Malo, laden with wine, oil, soap, rosin and other goods; taken on 10/21 May 1747 between Morlaix and Isle de Batz by HMS Surprise (James Webb commanding) and HMS Otter sloop (William Cust commanding), and brought into Guernsey. Court Papers:
Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 116 [mostly bills of lading; with gaps: SP 67-SP 95, SP 97, and SP 117-119 were restored]. [Decision: cargo condemned, ship restored, 9 July 1747] |
