Description: |
Folio(s) 9-10. Letter to Richard Ford from [Thomas Butterworth Bayley, Chairman of Lancashire Quarter Sessions], in reply to his letter and enclosure. He reports that he has been informed that no persons from the Bolton area have recently gone or intend to go to America. The sums paid for the prosecution of felons 1797-1800 are listed, showing a marked 'increase of knavery'. The price of potatoes has risen and is therefore not helping the poor, a situation considered perilous. |
