Description:

Folio(s) 312-313. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from John T Graves [John Thomas Graves], Assistant Poor Law Commissioner [Poor Law Inspector], to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Bromsgrove Poor Law Union Workhouse on 17 February 1848; includes details of medical provision, management of the school, the vagrant wards, etc. He thinks that the schoolmistress [Elizabeth Cheese] is incompetent but should be allowed a further trial. The workhouse is overcrowded due to the distress of the nailers [nailors]. The maximum number of inmates fixed is more than the workhouse can properly accommodate in its present state.

Annotated: write stating Grave's opinion on the capacity of the workhouse. Send form B and request certificate stating the optimum number of inmates the guardians and medical officer now think it can now hold. Afterwards refer to Mr Cane [R B Cane, Clerk 1st Class] with reference to numbers 4 and 10.
