Workhouse Inspection Report Form from Robert Weale, Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Mansfield Poor Law Union Workhouse on 14 July 1857; includes details of medical provision, management of the school, the vagrant wards, numbers of inmates. The number of inmates is higher than usual because of the recent admissions from Sutton Coldfield of five wives and 25 children of men imprisoned for offences against the Game Laws, and of two wives and nine children of men imprisoned for other offences.Annotated: put by.
