Description: |
Folios 526-528. To: Home Secretary. From: Terry and Robinson, Bradford, [Yorkshire]. A letter regarding surcharges levied on members of the Idle Local Board for disallowed payments, which have recently been remitted by the Home Secretary after previously being confirmed. Terry and Robinson state they have been awaiting an answer to questions they previously submitted on the matter to the Home Secretary, but have only received an acknowledgement of their letter. Terry and Robinson say that their clients wish to know whether they should oppose the remission in person to the Home Secretary or in writing. They also wish to know whether it is proper for the Home Secretary to overturn a decision that he himself has made and how he came to make such a decision. Terry and Robinson's clients have also informed them that a petition has been submitted to the Home Secretary from certain Idle ratepayers in support of the remission, and wish to state that if necessary they could get a petition signed just as numerously in favour of the surcharges' confirmation. |
