Description:

Folio 555.

To: Home Secretary.

From: [F Audsley, Member of the Idle Local Board, Idle, Yorkshire].

A petition from freeholders and ratepayers in the District of the Idle Local Board [the signatures have been removed, but a note from the Local Government Act Office indicates that there were 308]. The petition states that the Idle Local Board have been 'most unaccountably and vindictively attacked and maligned ... by a small section of disaffected ratepayers', who wish for surcharges made on the Idle Board for payments disallowed by the District Auditor to be upheld. The petitioners state they have the utmost faith in the Idle Board's integrity, and pray that the Home Secretary will grant the Board their appeal to remit the surcharges.
