To: Home Secretary.

From: William Toy, Ashton-under-Lyne, [Lancashire].

A letter and a handwritten notice, signed by the Churchwardens of the Parish of Ashton-under-Lyme adopting the Local Government Act 1858 in the hamlet of Hurst within that Parish. Toy forwards the notice, which declares that, Hurst ratepayers having favoured such a motion at a public meeting, the Local Government Act 1858 was adopted in Hurst on 11 March 1861. Toy requests that the notice of adoption be inserted in the London Gazette, and that instructions as to what should be done next be forwarded to him. The notice states that the number of members of the Hurst Local Board was set at 12.
