From: Thomas Clement Barker, Burnham, [Burnham on Sea, Somerset].

Letter asking if a contract with the local gas company is legally binding, the contract being voted at an adjourned meeting at which only five members of the board were present, three of those being directors or shareholders in the gas company, and being awarded at a higher price than initially agreed upon. Asks if the three board members, Joseph Allen, John Board and Richard Hodges, can vote upon the matter and if they have forfeited their seats on the board by doing so. Also asks if the appointment of the clerk at the same meeting is legal, insufficient notice of the election having been given. With copies of minutes of the board respecting the price to be paid per lamp to the gas company.
