Files containing documents used for reference purposes by the Treasury Solicitor's Ministry of Transport Branch and predecessors. The records consist of law officers' and counsels' opinions, transcripts of judgments in the High Court and Court of Appeal, and law reports. The origins of the collection are unknown, but it was probably added to by the legal officers themselves over a period of time. Only a small number of pieces have original file references.

The subject-matter includes travel by road, rail, air and water; foreign shipping in territorial waters; compensation for sunk shipping; compulsory acquisition of land for roads and railways; and the building of hospitals and orphanages.
