Administrative / biographical background:

The Chief Economic Adviser's Sector was created in 1975 with the function of providing forecasts and analysis on the UK economy to Treasury policy making divisions. The Economic Assessment Group was created in 1981 as was the Domestic Forecasting and Analysis Division (EA1). The function of EA1 was to provide forecast information on the personal, public and company sectors and to forecast on inflation. The small teams covered: i) forecasts coordination of public sector ii) employment and unemployment Company Sector iii) pay and prices iv) public sector accounts, and v) central government taxes and debt interest.
