Administrative / biographical background:

In 1975 the Public Services Sector was created. The Accounts and Purchasing Group was created as one of three Groups under this Sector. The Management Accounting and Purchasing Policy Division was created to serve the following functions: advice on accounting in relation to financial control and develpoments in government organisation (e.g. trading funds); advice on financial and accounting matters for bodies operating on cemmercial lines; fee and charges policy; public purchasing policy. By 1984 the division had been renamed the Public Services

In 1985 Public Services Sector continued but a Financial Management Division had been created to provide advice and guidance on financial management to government departments.
