Description:

Papers in the various legal proceedings dealt with by the Treasury Solicitor and HM Procurator General. They relate to state trials, the preservation of the public peace (including riots, disturbances and sedition), charities, escheats and administration cases, and a great variety of other business, including some concerning peerage claims and parliamentary elections.

Arrangement:

The series is mostly arranged in order of the original references given to them from 1853 by the PRO.

Separated material:

Land revenue and church buildings papers were transferred in 1860 and 1865 to the Office of Woods and the Ecclesiastical Commissioners respectively. Others were destroyed after examination by the Committee on Government Documents between 1859 and 1869. In addition, pieces with original references 6001-11836 , were returned to the Treasury Solicitor in 1917. A few pieces have since been re-transferred to TS 11, but most of those that have survived are now in other series, notably:
