Administrative / biographical background:

Finance (Overseas and Co-ordination) (F) was set up as part of the Treasury re-organisation in June 1962. The former Home Finance (HF), Overseas Finance Division (OF) and Overseas Co-ordination Division were brought together under the newly-formed Finance Group. The Finance Group contained three divisions

  • Finance (Home and General)
  • Finance: Overseas and Co-ordination
  • Finance: Overseas Development
  • The Finance groups with differing responsibilities were F(E), F(G), F(WE), F(LRO) and F(C).

In January 1973 a further re-organisation of the Treasury took place. The work of Finance (Home and General) Division was transferred to the National Economy Group, while the Finance Group became known as the Overseas Finance Group incorporating the functions of Finance (Overseas and Co-ordination) Division and Finance (Overseas Development) Division. Their work was re-organised and re-grouped into the divisions listed below and gradually papers ceased to be filed in the 2F series:

  • EC European Co-ordination
  • F(BP) Finance (Balance of Payments)
  • FD Finance (Development
  • F(EC) Finance (Exchange Control)
  • F(E) Finance (Exports)
  • F(IM) Finance (International Monetary)
  • F(RMSA) Finance (Reserve Management and Sterling Areas)
  • F(WE) Finance (Western Europe)
