Title: Treasury: Registers and Abstracts of Exchequer Credits, Issues and Receipts
Description:

These volumes detail the sums credited to and issued from the Exchequer accounts at the Banks of England and Ireland in respect of consolidated and Supply Services. From 1867 such transactions were carried out in accordance with the Exchequer and Audit Departments Act 1866. Also included are abstracts of exchequer receipts of miscellaneous revenue 1872 to 1886.

The detailed abstracts of Exchequer receipts provide a separate and more detailed analysis of the receipts of miscellaneous revenue taken into the Exchequer and recorded annually in the published Finance Accounts of the United Kingdom.

The first three sets of these books are concerned with the sums issued daily from the accounts of HM Exchequer at the Banks of England and Ireland under the terms of the Exchequer and Audit Department's Act 1866.

The registers of Exchequer credits record the applications made by the Treasury to the Comptroller and Auditor General under Sections 13 and 15 of the Act for permission ("credit") to make payments from the Accounts. Consolidated Fund Services and Supply Services are recorded separately and each is reconciled quarterly with the total sums actually issued from the Accounts.

The registers of Exchequer issues record the sums issued day by day in chronological order and show the name of the principal accountant to whose account the money has been transferred, the service and amount involved.

The abstracts of Exchequer issues record the same information classified by service heading and are the basis of the annual totals which appear in the Consolidated Fund Abstract accounts prepared and presented to Parliament each year under the provisions of Section 21 of the Act.

The abstracts of Exchequer credits record the sums voted by Parliament for each Supply Service, the requisition of credit from the Comptroller and Auditor General and the sums issued from the Exchequer account in respect of each service. The information recorded in these abstracts was no longer required in this form following the provision in Section 15 of the Act which allowed the Comptroller and Auditor General to give "block credit" for Supply Services provided only that the total of such credit was within the total of ways and means granted by Parliament.
