Administrative / biographical background:

The assembly of handwritten out-letters goes back to the 17th century. From the 1870s when typewriters were used in the Treasury, typed copies of letters would be found on the Treasury registered files, and a decision was made in 1958 to destroy copies of out-letters from 1920.
