The first two files of this series comprise correspondence, memoranda, minutes of evidence, etc. of Thomas Spring, first Lord Monteagle of Brandon, chairman of the Commission.

The remaining three files include the letters patent, Swiss decimal coins and the notebook and correspondence of Archibald Smith, secretary to the Commission.

The first two files of this series were presented to the Treasury in 1936 by the surviving grandson of Thomas Spring first Lord Mounteagle of Brandon: Francis Spring4th Lord Monteagle of Brandon, 1852-1937

The remaining three files were presented to the Public Record Office in 1966 by the grandson of Archibald Smith Secretary to the Royal Commission on Decimal Coinage: Archibald Parker Smith, 1966-1966
