The majority of records in this series are published monographs for limited circulation which were issued by the Chief Scientist, Ministry of Supply in a series entitled Permanent Records of Research and Developments; some of the monographs in the same numbering sequence are original typescripts or carbon copies.

Pieces 33 and 34 contain two volumes of collected monographs on the science of explosives during the Second World War published for the Ministry of Supply by Her Majesty's Stationery Office for limited circulation within government.

Arrangement:

The significance of the numbering system is not known but, in the main, it appears to relate to the officer responsible for the monograph: for example, Chief Engineer Fighting Vehicles Design (5); Director of Royal Engineer Equipment (8); and Director-General of Ordnance Factories (15).
