Captured ship: Sibyl (commander Le Comte de Kergarion de Loemaria).

History: a French ship of war (frigate, 600 tons, 36 guns, 300 men), bound from Cap François, Saint Domingue to Chesapeake Bay, Virginia in convoy; taken on 22 January 1783 off the Chesapeake, Virginia in latitude 36°20'N by HMS Hussar (Thomas Macnamara Russell commanding), HMS Centurion (James Cotes commanding), and HMS Terrier (Thomas Morris commanding), and brought into New York.
