Description:

High Court of Admiralty.

Captured ship: San Carlos of San Sebastian (commander Don Fermin de Orttizberea).

History: a Spanish merchant ship of the Royal Caracas Company of San Sebastian, with commission (frigate, 500 tons, 32 guns, 10 swivels, 173 men), bound from Passaca [Pasaia] to La Guaira, Venezuela, laden with flour, brandy, iron, cordage, bale goods; taken on 8 January 1780 in latitude 42°N by HMS Edgar (John Elliot commanding), one of the fleet of Admiral Rodney and brought into Plymouth.

The San Carlos became the English East India Company ship Hinchinbrooke: see HCA 32/359B/3.
