Description:

British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.

Captured ship: Polly (master Philip Lacey).

History: an American merchant ship (brigantine, 110 tons), bound from Philadelphia to Bordeaux, laden with flour, oil and spermaceti candles; taken on 4 July 1776 off Cape Henlopen, Delaware by HMS Orpheus (Charles Hudson commanding), and HMS King Fisher (Alexander Graham commanding) and brought into New York.

Court papers: 1-2; Ship's papers: 3-8. [These are interim paper numbers, and are likely to change once more fully catalogued].
