Administrative / biographical background:

The General Public Enterprise Policy Division was created under the Public Enterprises Group from the General Policy Division which was dissolved in 1985. It was replaced in 1990 by the Nationalised Industries and Privatisation Division which continued under the same Group. In 1992 the name of the division changed again to the Nationalised Industries, Privatisation and Transport Division. In 1993 it reverted back to its 1990 title again; the transport function splitting off into a separate division.
