Prisoner name: John McIntyre or John Macintyre. Prisoner age: 25. Prisoner occupation: Former apprentice in ship building yard of John Coleman, then employed as ships' carpenter in yard of David Coleman, son of John Coleman. Court and date of trial: Perth Circuit Court [Perthshire], April 1836. Crime: Assault on his wife. Initial sentence: Seven years transportation. Gaoler's report: Good character. Ordered to Justitia. Annotated: Ordered to Penitentiary, 19 May 1836. Petitioner(s): 49 inhabitants of Dundee [Angus], being carpenters employed in ship building yard of David Coleman, esquire, and others. Grounds for clemency: Prisoner was good worker and behaved well; his wife was a bad woman who repeatedly treated him ill; his skills will be useful in prison in this country.
