Prisoner name: Joseph Gamble.

Prisoner age: Age 16.

Prisoner occupation: Apprentice.

Court and date of trial: Leicester Borough Sessions [Leicestershire] October 1837.

Crime: Obtaining handkerchiefs by false pretences, the property of Samuel Christopher Westlake of Leicester.

Initial sentence: Six months imprisonment.

Annotated: Conditional pardon. Remission prepared 13 January 1838.

Petitioner(s): Richard Brown, the prisoner's employer, with 14 signatures attesting to the prisoner's good character. Richard Brown, Granly Street, Leicester.

Grounds for clemency: This is the prisoner's first offence and he was lead astray by an older youth; the prisoner's employer was not available to give a character reference but will re-employ the prisoner if he is liberated in less than six months.
