Prisoner name: George Crewe (or George Crew). Prisoner age: Aged 21 (or 23). Prisoner occupation: Worked as a shawl maker. Court and date of trial: Surrey Quarter Sessions adjourned, 5 December 1836. Crime: Stealing apparel. Prosecutrix Mary Cookesley. Initial sentence: Seven years transportation. Gaoler's report: 'Character not known'. Annotated: 'Nil' (first petition). 'Nil. A Bad Case of the kind' (second petition). Petitioner(s): George Crewe, the prisoner, undersigned by the prosecutrix Mary Cookesley and 33 tradesmen, including a character reference from George Gunn, silk manufacturer, who shared premises with Crewe.
