Description: |
Anton SCHREK. A German Consular official in Zurich, SCHREK was arrested in 1918 as part of a German spy ring one of whose roles was to bomb targets in Rome and Milan. Explosives for the purpose, together with weapons, had been brought into Switzerland via the German Embassy in Berne. While under detention in a mental hospital and awaiting trial, SCHREK escaped to Germany where in 1925 he was said to be closely involved with secret re-mobilisation plans. In 1928 he was found guilty in Berlin of forging military documents and selling them to foreign powers. At his trial he denied being the forger of the Zinoviev letter. |
