This series contains instructions on emergency arrangements during the General Strike of 1926.

The papers were issued to certain senior managers of the LNER and kept under strict security, in the case of this example, by Mr Kenelm Kerr (Assistant General Manager (Staffs) of LNER).

RAIL 789/1 deals solely with the LNER and RAIL 789/2 with other organisations, listing the representatives of all railway companies on the Emergency Organisation (Railways) at each location and names and addresses of police officers in charge of various police stations under the control of the Great Western Railway's police force.
