Administrative / biographical background:

The OWW proposed a branch from Wolvercot, near Oxford to a junction with the London and South Western Railway Company's Windsor Branch at Brentford. This would have taken the OWW through Great Western Railway (GWR) territory, giving the residents and business of that area another route to London. There were considerable objections to the scheme, not least from the GWR, but also from local residents, some of whom were quite influential people at this time. The parliamentary bill did not gain Royal assent.
