Administrative / biographical background:

The financial interests of the Southern Railway in these Omnibus companies passed to the Road Transport Executive of the British Transport Commission from 1 January 1948. The Road Transport Executive ceased to exist on 20 June 1949 when the interests in the undertakings were assumed by the Road Passenger Executive. This in turn was abolished from 1 October 1953 when responsibility was exercised directly by the British Transport Commission.
