Incorporated (dock portion) by act of 1828 and (railway) by act of 1835. On expiry of company's lease of Vale of Towy, Mar. 1868 a new lease of that line was granted to the Llanelly and London and North Western Railways jointly from 1 Apr 1868. By act of 1871, lines from Llandilo to Carmarthen, and Pontardulais to Swansea were made a separate undertaking entitled the Swansea and Carmathen Railway, to be worked by London and North Western Railway from 1 July 1871. Worked by Great Western Railway from 1 Jan. 1873, and finally absorbed by Great Western Railway by Great Western and Llanelly Railway and Dock companies' Amalgamation Act 24 June 1889.
