First Prospectus of this company was issued on 29th October 1824, and first Act incorporating Company received Royal Assent on 5th May 1826. By act of 8th August 1845, Bolton and Leigh; Kenyon and Leigh Junction; Liverpool and Manchester; and Grand Junction railway companies were consolidated under name of Grand Junction Railway Company. This latter Company, with London and Birmingham and Manchester and Birmingham railway companies, were consolidated under act of 16th July 1846 to form London and North Western Railway Company, which company became vested in London Midland and Scottish Railway Company as from 1st January 1923.
