An amalgamation of Cowes & Newport; Isle of Wight (Newport Junction); and Ryde & Newport railway companies under Isle of Wight Central Railway Act of 1887, with effect from 1st July 1887. Isle of Wight Central Railway Company was transferred to and absorbed by London & South Western Railway Company at midnight on 31st December 1922 under London & South Western (Southern Group) Preliminary Absorption Scheme 1922 dated 23rd December 1922. London & South Western Railway Company was one of constituent companies of Southern Railway Company from 1st January 1923 under Railways (Southern Group) Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 22nd December 1922.
