Administrative / biographical background: |
Incorporated under act of 21st June 1836 (6 & 7 Wm 4, cap.80). Line was leased to York & North Midland Railway Company for 77 years as from 1st July 1845 under Act 8 & 9 Vic, cap.51 (1845). This lease was subsequently altered to one in perpetuity. By Resolution of York & North Midland Railway Company of 25th February 1846, Manchester & Leeds Railway Company was allowed to participate equally in this lease, any agreement entered into by Manchester & Leeds, and York & North Midland railway companies being sanctioned by act of 27th July 1846 (9 & 10 Vic, cap.241). This Act also authorised Hull & Selby Railway Company to sell their undertaking to either Manchester & Leeds, or York & North Midland Railway Company. Difficulties arose over this agreement and undertaking was eventually purchased by North Eastern Railway Company as from 1st March 1872. North Eastern Railway Company, Hull & Barnsley Railway Company, and Hull Joint Dock Committee were dissolved and united into one company by name North Eastern Railway Company as from 1st April 1922 by virtue of North Eastern, and Hull & Barnsley railway companies Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 1st April 1922. This North Eastern Railway Company became part of London & North Eastern Railway Company as from 1st January 1923 under North Eastern, Eastern and East Scottish Group Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 30th December 1922. |
