The Forest of Dean Railway Company was incorporated under Bullo Railway Act 10th June 1809. Bullo Railway Company was dissolved by virtue of Forest of Dean Railway Act of 1826 and re-incorporated by name of Forest of Dean Railway Company.

It was purchased by South Wales Railway Company by virtue of South Wales Railway (Amendment) Act 2nd July 1847.
