The Easton and Church Hope Railway Company was incorporated under act of 25th July 1867 and extended by an act of 1884.

It was worked and maintained by the Great Western Railway (GWR) and the London and South Western Railway (LSWR) under power of an act of 1887. They continued to operate it until 1923 when the LSWR was grouped with the companies into the Southern Railway (SR), the SR then partnering the GWR until 1948. The ECHR was put into the hands of receivers in 1901 and remained so until absorbed by the British Transport Commission in 1948.
