The Cornwall Railway Company was incorporated under the Cornwall Railway Act 3rd August 1846 and leased to Great Western, Bristol & Exeter, and South Devon railway companies as from 3rd May 1859 by Indenture dated 9th August 1861 made by virtue of Cornwall Railway (Consolidation & Amendment) Act 1st August 1861.

The company was amalgamated with Great Western Railway Company under Great Western and Cornwall railway companies' Amalgamation Act 24th June 1889.
